What is the optional 'EXTERNAL URL' when minting

I minted a test NFT on Goerli but I can’t see the URL on OpenSea or LooksRare.
Am I not seeing well or is it maybe some metadata?

You’ll see it on the token’s LooksRare page. Its an external website some marketplaces point to.

I can’t find it on LooksRare, should the URL point to a HTML page containing the artwork or to the artwork itself somewhere on a webserver?
